Chassis Selection
One of the most important items to consider when choosing a new Horsebox is the Chassis. We are happy to supply Chassis only, Chassis for part build projects and obviously Chassis for customers buying our completed Horseboxes.
FINANCE AVAILABLE
We are able to offer competitive finance deals on all chassis and horseboxes sold from listed credit brokers.
Experience as users and builders of Horseboxes over many years has led us to favour the Iveco/Ford Eurocarge 75E15/75E17 for 7.5t Horseboxes, Iveco/Ford or Leyland Daf or mid-sized lorries and Scania for 18 tonne and bigger Horseboxes. We can and do however build on all makes of Chassis if you have a particular preference.
As large scale buyers of new and used Chassis we have built up a network of honest and reliable suppliers and are therefore able to source very good Chassis at reasonable prices - it is not in any dealers interest to sell us a dud!
All chassis supplied by us carry a 3 months parts and labour warranty on major compnents (in addition to the 12 months warranty on our work). All Chassis supplied by us are also Services and have a new 12 month MOT prior to sale.
Guide prices for Iveco/Eurocargo 75E15 are as follows:
- 1999 £2,500.00
- 2000 £3,000.00
- 2001 £3,500.00 - 75E17 - Euro 3 inner London compliant
- 2002 £4,000.00
- 2003 £5,000.00
- 2004 £6,000.00 - New Shape 75E17
- 2005 £7,000.00
- 2006 £9,500.00
A current area of concern is the ability to drive a Horsebox inside the M25. Currently to do this the engine must be Euro 3 compliant, for Iveco models this means 2001 75E17 onwards. These newer chassis are therefore currently in big demand by all lorry (not just Horsebox!) users and selling for a lot of money. In 2012 the rules will change again, this time allowing only Euro 4 (2007 onwards) compliant engines inside the M25. At the moment it is hard to see where this will all end - perhaps with our new change of Mayor?
Years of experience tell us that 2 fairly minor but very inconvenient problems are:
- Door locks that don't lock - Often don't work as they have often not been used since the lorry was new, but essential on a Horsebox - therefore if they are faulty we replace them.
- Batteries that don't stay charged - If they are old and faulty we replace them before collection. Also, as horseboxes are often not used for long periods of time, even new batteries can go flat, we therefore fit a battery cut off switch to all chassis that we supply at no extra charge.
You may see cheaper Chassis advertised elsewhere, but don't forget:
- Our Chassis are sourced from dealers we know and trust and have used for many years.
- They receive a full service before delivery.
- They are sold with a 3 months Parts and Labour Warranty.
- They are sold with a new MOT.
- They have a battery cut off switch fitted as standard.
A cheap Chassis can end up being very expensive in maintenance bills over a number of years. We strongly recommend buying the newest Chassis you can afford - even if this means you forgo some of the 'frills' in the living area initially - it is always possible to fit these at a later date.
